What it is
There are many professional definitions of coaching…I start from the end.
The goal of coaching is not the client’s goal as such – be it big or small – but to set oneself on the path, to create new paths, to set oneself on a quest.
Only this generates a permanent sense of self-efficacy and responsibility in the coachee/client and not a dependency on the coach.
The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as:
“partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
A curiosity:
The word ‘coaching’ comes from the term ‘coach’ and identifies a process used to accompany people from where they are to where they want to be.
What it offers
A coaching path offers:
- Effective questions
- Feedback based on what the customer expresses verbally and not
- Clarity
- A “safe” environment and a motivating climate for opening up new ways and generate new opportunities
What is not
Coaching is not:
- Advising
- Counselling
- Therapy
Clients are experts on the content & decision making level;
the coach is an expert in professionally guiding the process.
